Brighton vs Sheffield United: Preview
Brighton form analysis
Brighton’s recent run of games has showcased flashes of their slick passing style but also some uncharacteristic defensive issues. They started with a heavy 1-6 home loss to Villa, ripped apart after going behind early despite a goal from new signing Fati. There was an improved display next game as they drew 2-2 with Liverpool in a thriller – twice equalizing through Adingra and Dunk after going behind to Salah’s brace. However, problems at the back remained in their next match, losing 1-2 at home to Man City despite pulling one back through Fati.
Brighton returned to form in their next game, dominating possession in a 1-1 home draw with Fulham despite intense pressure. Most recently they were forced to settle for another 1-1 away draw at Everton. Equalizing late via an own goal to claim a deserved point after intense pressure. Overall, Brighton continue to impress with their patient buildup play but unusually vulnerable defending has cost them points during this spell.
Sheffield United form analysis
Sheffield United’s recent run of games has exposed their limitations after promotion last season. They started with an expected 0-2 home loss to West Ham, comfortably swept aside from start to finish. Things got worse next match with a 1-3 home defeat to Fulham despite equalizing briefly, torn apart defensively throughout. There was an improved display in their next game, narrowly losing 1-2 at home to Man Utd and unlucky not to take a point after equalizing from the spot.
However, the gulf in class was evident again in their heaviest loss of the season, thrashed 0-5 at home by Arsenal in a sobering defeat. Most recently they battled hard in a 2-1 home win over Wolves. Just edging it late on courtesy of goals from Archer and Norwood’s penalty despite intense pressure. Overall, Sheffield United have struggled badly at both ends and it is hard to see anything but a relegation scrap ahead this season unless they can strengthen significantly in January.
