Brighton vs Liverpool: Preview
Brighton form analysis
Albion began with a disappointing 1-3 home loss to West Ham, caught out on the counter-attack despite Gross’ late strike. They responded excellently by hammering Newcastle 3-1 at home, highlighted by a Ferguson hat-trick. Their best performance came in a 3-1 away win at Man United, clinical in attack through goals from Welbeck, Gross and Joao Pedro.
Brighton beat Bournemouth 3-1 next, thanks to an own goal and a Mitoma brace. However, defensive issues resurfaced in a thrashing away at Aston Villa, routed 6-1 despite Ansu Fati briefly making it 3-1.
Brighton has, overall, played some terrific offensive football but has occasionally struggled defensively. Ferguson has emerged as a real goal threat. But lapses in concentration at the back have cost them points and led to defeats.
If manager De Zerbi can retain Brighton’s offensive spark while making them harder to beat, a top half finish is very much on the cards. But adding greater solidity to complement their flair in attack is crucial for Brighton’s continued progress.
Liverpool form analysis
Liverpool began with a dramatic 2-1 win away at Newcastle, scoring twice late through Nunez to overturn Gordon’s opener. They built on that with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Aston Villa, dominant from start to finish. However, defensive issues surfaced in a 3-1 away win at Wolves, requiring a late own goal to seal the points despite going behind early.
Liverpool then edged past West Ham 3-1 at home, with Nunez again on target along with Salah and Jota. Most recently though, Liverpool suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss away at Tottenham, going behind early before Gakpo equalized, only to concede a late own goal.
Overall, Liverpool have showcased their attacking threat, with Nunez settling in well alongside Salah and Diaz. However, there have been lapses defensively, conceding avoidable goals. But Jurgen Klopp seems to have shaped a vibrant frontline capable of troubling any opponent. If Liverpool can retain that attacking spark while tightening up at the back, they have an excellent chance of competing for major honors again this season. But restoring their defensive solidity is crucial after the late defeat at Spurs.
