Brentford vs Luton Town: Preview
Brentford form analysis
The Bees had been in excellent form, with three consecutive wins followed by a narrow loss away at Liverpool. On October 21st, they secured an impressive 3-0 home victory over Burnley thanks to goals from Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos. This was followed by another statement result on October 28th as Brentford beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Ethan Pinnock and Mbeumo on target. Brentford made it three wins in a row by edging a 5-goal thriller against West Ham on November 4th, coming from behind to win 3-2 after goals from Mathias Jensen, Konstantinos Mavropanos (OG) and Nathan Collins.
However, their run came to an end with a 3-0 defeat away at Liverpool on November 12th. Most recently on November 25th, Brentford suffered late heartbreak as they were beaten 1-0 at home by league leaders Arsenal, undone by Kai Havertz’s last-gasp header. Overall Brentford have played some excellent attacking football, led by Mbeumo, and they have troubled some of the Premier League’s top teams. Keeping things tight at the back will be key if they are to push for a top half finish.
Luton Town form analysis
Luton Town have produced some impressive performances against strong opposition, securing recent draws with Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. On October 21st, they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Forest, with late goals from Chiedozie Ogbene and Elijah Adebayo completing the comeback. A 3-1 loss away at Aston Villa followed, before Luton held Liverpool to a dramatic 1-1 home draw on November 5th – Tariq Chong’s late opener cancelled out by Luis Diaz in stoppage time. Luton’s resilient defence was breached again during a 1-0 defeat away at Manchester United. With Victor Lindelöf scoring the only goal.
Most recently, Luton returned to winning ways with an important 2-1 victory over struggling Crystal Palace on November 25th. Centre-back Tom Mengi opened the scoring. Before Jordan Brown came off the bench to grab a late winner after Michael Olise’s equaliser. Despite conceding in each game, Luton have remained difficult to beat. Thanks in large part to the defensive partnership of Mengi and captain Sonny Bradley. With attacking threats like Adebayo, Chong and Cauley Woodrow, the Hatters carry a threat going forward too. If they tighten up defensively, Luton could produce more upsets as they battle relegation.
