Brentford vs Chelsea: Preview
Brentford form analysis
After giving Manchester City a test before falling 1-3 at home to start this recent Premier League run on February 6th, Brentford found strong winning form in their next match on the 10th – an impressive 0-2 victory away at Wolves courtesy of goals from C. Nørgaard and I. Toney. However, their defense was shredded in a 1-4 home loss to high-flying Liverpool on the 17th, unable to slow the Reds’ prolific attack.
Brentford tightened up in their next match defensively but lacked ideas up front, falling 0-1 at Manchester City four days later on the 21st. Most recently on February 27th, defensive issues returned in an entertaining high scoring 4-2 loss away at West Ham. Overall, Brentford’s play has been inconsistent recently, balancing organized, solid performances with utterly bereft ones conceding flurries of goals. Greater consistency and tighter defending for 90 minutes will be vital if Brentford are to push further up the table. The talent is apparent when clicking, but keeping clean sheets remains a major point of emphasis moving forward.
Chelsea form analysis
It has been an up and down recent run for Chelsea in the Premier League as they fight to secure a European place. After beating London rivals Fulham 1-0 on January 13th, Chelsea took a humbling 1-4 home loss to Liverpool on February 1st, outclassed from start to finish. They appeared to rebound well with an impressive 2-4 victory away at Wolves four days later led by a C. Palmer opener, but defensive issues resurfaced in a 1-3 loss away at Crystal Palace on the 13th, requiring late consolation goals in both those matches.
Most recently, Chelsea earned consecutive draws against the Manchester clubs, first a credible 1-1 away to City on the 17th before a dour 0-0 home draw against United on the 25th. Overall, Chelsea have struggled badly for consistency during this poor run. At their best, they still have the weapons in attack to trouble any team. But the defense has lacked organization and resilience. Addressing the back line issues and mentality to compete for 90 minutes seems key towards a late push for the top table.
