Brendon McCullum Encourages England to Stay True to Their Style in Cricket World Cup
The defending champions England have struggled at the Cricket World Cup being hit by a few bumps along the way, with a recent 69-run loss to Afghanistan marking their second defeat in the tournament. Yet, team’s red-ball coach Brendon McCullum remains positive for England to find its winning ways.
England has achieved so much success with its attacking cricket philosophy. However in this World Cup, they have failed to build any kind of solid and match winning partnerships. McCullum has emphasized the importance of sticking with their distinctive style of play which has given them success in last few years.
The loss to Afghanistan followed an initial defeat against New Zealand in their opening game earlier this month. England, the holders of both the 50-overs title and the Twenty20 World Cup, currently find themselves in fifth place in the standings with one win from three games.
In an interview with the Mirror, Brendon McCullum provided his insight into the situation, offering a reassuring perspective for England. “They will get there. It is still early days, and this tournament is a slow burn, so there is plenty of time and matches for them to catch up,” McCullum stated.
