Bournemouth vs Aston Villa: Preview
Bournemouth form analysis
Bournemouth’s recent form has been inconsistent, with two wins, two defeats and a draw from their last five matches. On October 21st, they lost 2-1 at home to Wolves despite Dominic Solanke’s opener. But a week later Bournemouth bounced back to beat fellow strugglers Burnley 2-1, coming from behind after goals from Antoine Semenyo and Philip Billing. Any momentum quickly evaporated though as they were thrashed 6-1 away at Manchester City on November 4th, Luis Sinisterra’s goal a mere consolation.
However, the Cherries quickly responded by beating high-flying Newcastle 2-0 at home a week later, with Solanke grabbing a brace. Most recently on November 25th, Bournemouth impressed again in a 3-1 win away at Sheffield United, thanks to a double from on-loan winger Marcus Tavernier and Justin Kluivert’s strike. Overall Bournemouth have struggled defensively, conceding 11 goals in their last three games, but have shown an ability to score goals with the likes of Solanke, Tavernier and Kieffer Moore.
Aston Villa form analysis
Aston Villa’s form has been inconsistent recently under Emery. On October 22nd, Villa thrashed West Ham 4-1 at home with Douglas Luiz grabbing a brace. They made it back-to-back wins by beating Luton 3-1 on October 29th. However, Emery then suffered his first defeat against Nottingham Forest, going down 2-0 away. Villa responded emphatically though, dispatching in-form Fulham 3-1 on November 12th thanks to goals from Tyrone Mings, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins.
Most recently on November 26th, Villa secured an impressive 2-1 away win against Tottenham. After falling behind to Giovani Lo Celso’s opener, Villa hit back through Pau Torres’ leveller and Watkins’ second half winner. With exciting attackers like Watkins, Leon Bailey and Emi Buendía, Villa pose a significant threat going forward. But Erneyi Billingham remains a work in progress, and defensive lapses have cost Villa at times.
