Bologna vs Verona: Preview
Bologna form analysis
Over their last five Serie A matches, Bologna have shown promising signs going forward but defensive weaknesses remain. A thrilling 2-2 draw away to AC Milan kicked off this run as Joshua Zirkzee and Riccardo Orsolini’s late penalty grabbed Bologna a point. They then outscored Sassuolo 4-2 in an enthralling match, overturning Cristian Volpato’s second half strike with goals from substitutes Ferguson, Saelemaekers and Fabbian.
Bologna posted their biggest win of the season by thrashing Lecce 4-0, with right winger Orsolini grabbing a brace. Orsolini was on target again in a 2-0 home win over Fiorentina. Most recently, Bologna came from behind to beat Lazio 2-1 away courtesy of second half goals from El Azzouzi and Zirkzee. So while Bologna have been potent in attack, led by the likes of Orsolini and Zirkzee, they remain prone to conceding goals. Tightening up defensively will be key if Bologna are to make a push for a top place finish.
Verona form analysis
Over their past five Serie A matches, Verona have struggled for consistency in both results and performances. After a 2-1 loss away to high-flying Roma, Verona were held to a 1-1 home draw by relegation battlers Frosinone. Despite Tommaso Suslov’s first half penalty, Kaio Jorge equalized early in the second half to split the points. Against league leaders Napoli, Verona took a shock lead through Davide Coppola but eventually succumbed to a 2-1 defeat after an own goal and late Khvicha Kvaratskhelia winner.
Verona were then involved in an uneventful goalless draw away to mid-table Monza, showing their troubles in creating clear scoring chances. Most recently at home against Juventus, Michael Folorunsho and Thomas Noslin scored to give Verona a 2-1 lead but Adrien Rabiot’s equalizer salvaged a point for Juve. So while Verona have been organized defensively and dangerous from set pieces, they have lacked attacking flair and consistency going forward. Finding more creativity and goal threat will be crucial if Verona are to push through relegation.
