Bochum vs RB Leipzig: Preview
Bochum form analysis
Die Unabsteigbaren has shown occasional attacking verve recently but those positive performances have often been spoiled by disorganized defending conceding goals in bunches. On February 24th, Bochum scored twice but still fell 5-2 away at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Earlier though on February 18th was Bochum’s best performance, a shock 3-2 home win over mighty Bayern Munich powered by goals from Asano, Schlotterbeck and a Stöger penalty. Prior to that, Bochum drew 1-1 at home with Eintracht Frankfurt on February 10th and away at Augsburg on February 3rd.
Bochum’s worst recent performance came in a 3-1 away thrashing by Borussia Dortmund on January 28th with Schlotterbeck’s own goal their only tally. So while Bochum has shown the ability to threaten teams getting forward, far too often prolonged spells of porous defending have undermined those good spells in attack. Greater organization and discipline defensively will be key moving forward.
RB Leipzig form analysis
RB Leipzig has mixed occasional attacking brilliance with defensive lapses recently. On February 24th, Leipzig fell 2-1 away to Bayern Munich despite Šeško’s equalizer after surrendering goals to Kane. Earlier on February 17th was Leipzig’s most complete performance, grinding out a 2-0 home win over Borussia Mönchengladbach behind goals from Simons and Openda. Prior to that on February 10th, Leipzig drew a wild 2-2 game away at Augsburg with Openda and Šeško strikes sandwiching Augsburg comebacks.
On February 4th, Leipzig managed an impressive 2-0 home win over Union Berlin powered by goals from Openda and Šeško. Leipzig’s worst recent performance came In a 5-2 thrashing away to Stuttgart on January 27th, despite brief comebacks from Šeško and Openda after conceding four first half goals. So Leipzig has brilliant attackers but struggle maintaining intensity defensively. Greater consistency for 90 minutes could help transform solid results into dominant victories.
