Bochum vs Borussia Dortmund: Preview
Bochum form analysis
Last week, Bochum struggled to get a foothold in the game and conceded early. They failed to create any real goalscoring opportunities in the first half. Defensively Bochum were opened up far too easily as Stuttgart attacked at will. Hofmann and Asano were isolated upfront and lacked service. The midfield was overrun as Stuttgart dominated possession. Overall a very poor performance from Bochum who never looked like getting back into the game.
Bochum have struggled for consistency recently. They lost to Gladbach, drew Hertha Berlin after conceding first. Defensively, conceding 5 and 2 goals respectively in their two defeats highlights issues at the back. But they did show fight to equalize against Hertha. Going forward, tightening up defensively seems critical to improve results, as the 5-goal loss especially was very poor. They’ll hope to bounce back from that heavy defeat in their next match.
Borussia Dortmund form analysis
On matchday 1, Dortmund dominated possession and territory early on but struggled to create clear chances. Reus, Haller and Hummels went close before the break. In the second half, Dortmund continued to press and finally broke through when Malen finished off a corner. Brandt was bright in midfield and they controlled the game. Defensively Dortmund were rarely troubled although Köln threatened on counters occasionally. A vital win to keep pace near the top.
Let us take a look at BVB’s last four results last season. Dortmund started their run of games with an emphatic 6-0 home win over Wolfsburg, scoring 6 goals including 2 from Adeyemi.
They followed this with another big victory, winning 5-2 away against Gladbach after racing into a 4-0 lead. Haller found good form up front.
A solid 3-0 away win over Augsburg followed, with Haller scoring twice late. This showed their ability to finish games strongly. However, they then dropped points in a 2-2 home draw with Mainz after falling 2-0 down. Defensive lapses cost them victory.
