Blackpool vs Burton Albion: Preview
Blackpool form analysis
Pool have endured inconsistent League One form recently across varying competitions. They started with a narrow 2-1 loss away at Cambridge United on December 16th despite Jerry Rhodes giving them the lead before conceding twice in the second half. Blackpool responded well by beating Bristol Rovers 3-1 at home a week later courtesy of goals from captain Oliver Norburn, Jerry Rhodes and Jake Beesley either side of John Marquis briefly equalizing.
However, familiar flaws soon resurfaced during back-to-back single goal defeats away at Burton and at home against Port Vale over the festive period as Blackpool struggled to create chances in both games. Most recently though, Blackpool began 2023 with an efficient 2-0 home win over Lincoln on New Year’s Day thanks to goals from Oliver Casey and Callum Hamilton, dominating throughout. Overall, while Blackpool have shown they can pose a goal threat, greater consistency both defensively and in attack is required to mount a serious promotion push.
Burton Albion form analysis
Burton Albion have produced inconsistent results over their last five League One games. They started this run with a last gasp 1-1 away draw at Charlton Athletic on December 23rd; after conceding to Lucas Jones, debutant Robin Sweeney dramatically grabbed an injury time equalizer to rescue an unlikely point for Burton. Four days later, Burton built on that by edging past Blackpool 1-0 at home thanks to Brayden Kamwa’s 10th minute effort.
Burton followed that up with another narrow 1-0 home win over struggling Shrewsbury Town courtesy of Scott Fraser’s first half winner to make it back-to-back clean sheets. However, their New Year’s form stalled with a sobering 1-0 loss away at Bolton Wanderers on January 1st, undone by an unfortunate own goal. Most recently on January 6th, defensive issues resurfaced as Burton surrendered the lead in a 1-1 home draw with Wycombe; Brayden Lubala’s opener was cancelled out by Sam Vokes before both teams had late chances to win it in an even contest. Overall, Burton have shown endeavour but must improve game management.
