Arjun Erigaisi, a successful Indian Grandmaster in chess, was born in Warangal, Telangana, India, on September 3, 2003. With an outstanding FIDE rating of 2701, he became a Grandmaster (GM) at the age of 14 and went on to become the 32nd youngest Grandmaster in April 2023.
6. R Praggnanandhaa:
R Praggnanandhaa, a talented chess player, was born on August 10, 2005, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Due to her sister R. Vaishali’s status as a Woman Grandmaster and International Master, he hails from a chess-loving family. Praggnanandhaa started playing chess at the age of 5, and thanks to his exceptional talent, he advanced swiftly.
7. Nihal Sarin:
On July 13, 2004, Nihal Sarin was born in Kerala. At the age of 14, he created history by becoming the youngest person to hold the most prestigious title, Grandmaster (GM). Nihal is known for his exceptional abilities and chess accomplishments. He currently holds a spot among India’s top ten chess players and is the fourth-youngest player in Elo history to have an Elo rating higher than 2600.
8. S.L Narayana:
S.L. Narayan was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, on January 10, 1998. He became the 41st Grandmaster from India in 2015 after receiving the prestigious title of Grandmaster (GM). His FIDE rating was 2664 in March 2023, and he was ranked No. 76 globally and No. 5 in India. Grandiscacchi Cattolica International Open, held in Italy in 2022, was won by Narayan.
9. Aravindh Chithambaram:
Aravindh Chithambaram, an extraordinarily talented Indian Grandmaster in chess, went by the name Aravindh Chithambaram Veerappan. At the age of seven, with the tutelage of his grandfather, he began playing chess. At the age of 12, Arvind won the Indian Chess Championship twice, in 2018 and 2019, and he was crowned the country’s U-19 champion. He attained the 2641st rank, which is the highest.
10. Abhijeet Gupta:
Abhijeet Gupta, an Indian chess player and Grandmaster (GM), was born in Bhilwara, India, on October 16, 1989. At the age of 18, he received the title of Grandmaster. Abhijeet became the first person to win the Commonwealth Chess Championship five times and the third Indian to win the World Junior Chess Championship in 2008. He attained the title of International Master in 2005 at the age of 13 in 2002.
