Hazard posted on Instagram, “You must listen to yourself and say quit when the moment is right. After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.”
Hazard was happier when playing at Chelsea, where he won the FA and League Cup three times, the Europa League once, and the Premier League once.
Additionally, he played a key role in Belgium’s amazing World Cup run to the semi-finals, when they lost to eventual champions France after defeating Brazil in the quarter-finals.
However, he was unable to motivate himself for the World Cup finals in 2018, as he lost in the group stage along with underwhelming Belgium and fellow talents Kevin de Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.
Hazard, who also won crowns with Lille and Real in Ligue 1 and La Liga, as well as a Champions League gold in 2022 as an unused substitute, was appreciative as he signed off. He stated, “I was able to realize my dream; I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. During my career, I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches, and teammates. Thank you to everyone for these great times. I will miss you all.”
In addition to his clubs and the federation, he praised his clubs. He also praised the Belgian federation, friends, family, and advisers who have been close to him in good times and bad.
“Finally, a huge thank you to you, my fans, who have followed me for all these years. Thank you for your encouragement everywhere I have played,” he said.
About Eden Hazard

Hazard started playing football with Royal Stade Brainois, the team from his hometown at the age of four. During his stint at the club, one of his young coaches called him a “gifted” athlete.
Before joining AFC Tubize, Hazard spent eight years with the organization. He was seen by a Lille scout while at Tubize while participating in a local match with the club. Club management met with Hazard’s father and extended a youth contract after receiving the scout’s report on the player.
