UFC Welterweight Belal Muhammad, who is set to face Leon Edwards at UFC 304, has recently claimed that he ran into the welterweight champion in an elevator and tension rose between the two teams. Belal also claimed that Leon was scared of him during the encounter. This is just building up their rivalry even more before UFC 304. The title fight is highly anticipated and now the animosity between the teams has become even more hostile.
Edwards will face Muhammad in a rematch
Leon Edwards won the welterweight title in 2022 by defeating Kamaru Usman. He has defended the title two times and will now defend it at UFC 304 against Muhammad. The first encounter between Belal and Leon ended in a no contest due to an accidental eye poke, now Muhammad is looking to seek redemption in the rematch. Both fighters have constantly sniped at each other on multiple occasions. There is no mutual respect at all between the two since their last clash at UFC Fight Night.
Muhammad detailed the encounter
The recent encounter in an elevator has further solidified the rivalry. Muhammad recounted an episode when he bumped into Edwards in an elevator, revealing that both teams had back-and-forth exchanges and that Edwards was afraid of him. In an interview with MMA Junkie, Belal said, “I just saw him right now in the elevator, he looked like he was afraid. Him, his brother and his coach, they all looked like cowards.” He further revealed that Edward’s coach was the one who initiated the trash talk.
Muhammad said Edwards remained silent during the encounter while his coach engaged in verbal exchanges. The challenger did not hesitate in his description of the encounter and claimed he smelled fear from their camp. Belal wants to defeat Leon Edwards and rule the division by becoming the new champion. He also wants to be the best welterweight contender of all time. In an interview with Damon Martin, he claimed that he would only be second to Georges St-Pierre after defeating Edwards.
