Belal Muhammad is set to face the UFC Welterweight Champion, Leon Edwards, at UFC 304. Ahead of the event, Belal has openly criticized “Rocky” and his title reign. Muhammad claims that Edwards has only competed against lightweights. The No. 2 ranked Welterweight contender thinks that his own path has been harder.
Belal criticized the quality of opponents Edwards has faced
During the chat with YouTuber Kevin Lole, Bela expressed his doubts about the quality of opponents Leon Edwards faced on his way to the top. He said, “I mean, when I look at his resume to get a title fight, I see he only fought nothing but lightweights.”
“Remember the name” underlined his view with names like Donald Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos and Nate Diaz and further said, “Look at the guys that I beat when I beat them, right?”
Such criticism not only challenges Leon’s record, but also shows a contrast to the obstacles Muhammad himself has overcome. Muhammad is not the only fighter to cast doubt on the levels of Edward’s bouts. Russian fighter Khamzat Chimaev also recently labeled the upcoming clash between Edwards and Muhammad as potentially lackluster.
Fellow MMA star thinks the matchup is boring
Chimaev stated that it is a boring fight as both men don’t trash talk and there are no finishes. He indicated that this matchup may not live up to the hype. An opinion like this coming from a fellow fighter has added an interesting layer to the pre-fight narrative, emphasizing the differences in fighting styles and public personas between the two men. Belal’s candid assessment and Chimaev’s prediction have created a backdrop as the event approaches.
UFC 304 clash will be a rematch between the two men
Belal is brimming with confidence ahead of his UFC 304 clash. During a conversation with Josh Thomson, he made it clear that he is aiming for a decision win. He stated that Edward’s usual approach won’t work this time. Muhammad also bragged about his wrestling skills in the ring and said that he is several levels above Leon everywhere. “Even when people tell me that the only way I can beat him is laying and praying. I’m telling you I can outstrike him. I could knock him out,” said Muhammad.
The UFC 304 clash between Edwards and Muhammad will mark their rematch as their last fight ended in a no contest due to an accidental eye poke that made Belal unable to continue. Fans would be very eager to see the outcome of the bout between these two men.
