It’s breaking! ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will not have an opening ceremony as decided by BCCI. This will be the first time in the history of the ODI World Cup that there will be no official opening ceremony before the opening clash of the marquee event i.e. England vs. New Zealand to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
In a report by a leading sports portal, it has been disclosed that the traditionally held opening ceremony for the ODI World Cup 2023 will not take place. Initially, the BCCI intended to host a grand opening ceremony at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 4, one day prior to the opening fixture at the same venue after the England vs. New Zealand clash. Stars filled opening ceremony was going to feature Mega stars like Ranveer Singh, Arijit Singh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shreyas Ghoshal, and Asha Bhosle. The ceremony was also anticipated to showcase fireworks & a laser display to herald the commencement of the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
ODI World Cup 2023 Opening Ceremony is still under doubts
The timing for the opening ceremony was fixed at 7 pm IST immediately after the Captains’ Day event at the Narendra Modi Stadium. While the Captain’s Day event will happen as scheduled there is no formal confirmation about the cancellation of the opening ceremony. It has been anticipated that the BCCI is planning to host a grand celebration before the India vs. Pakistan clash on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. However, there has been no official confirmation about the same yet.
Coming to the Captain’s Day event, all 10 team captains including Rohit Sharma, will converge in Ahmedabad for the mega event. Team India will begin their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign just three days after the opening fixture in Chennai against Australia who will gear up for their sixth World Cup title.
India breathes fire while Pakistan is searching for his lost form
The Indian team has exhibited formidable form in the recently ended Asia Cup 2023 where they defeated Sri Lanka to become the Champions followed by a 2-1 series win against Australia on home ground demonstrating their blistering form ahead of the prestigious tournament. While arch-rivals Pakistan had a forgettable Asia Cup 2023 where they failed to qualify for the finals. They will aim to bounce back from a poor season & give their 200% in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
Coming to the ODI World Cup 2023, the marquee event is all set to begin on October 5 with New Zealand locking horns with England in the curtain-raiser clash of the tournament. India will begin their campaign against Australia on October 8th Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
