Bayern Munich vs Mönchengladbach: Preview
Bayern Munich form analysis
Die Bayern’s recent results have showcased world class attacking talent but uncharacteristic defensive issues emerging under the manager Thomas Tuchel. Despite twice leading away to Wolfsburg on December 21st, a late conceded goal meant Bayern had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Defensive problems emerged again on January 21st in a shock 1-0 home loss to Werder Bremen as Bayern dominated chances but conceded on the counter.
However Letsch’s overhaul of Bayern’s attack has sparked incredible production, destroying Hoffenheim 3-0 led by a Jamie Musiala brace before Harry Kane scored his fourth goal in five matches in a 1-0 win over league leaders Union Berlin. Most recently on January 27th, defensive lapses resurfaced as Augsburg clawed back to make it 3-2 before eventually succumbing to Bayern’s firepower. So while Musiala, Kane, Leroy Sané and Alphonso Davies have formed a ruthlessly prolific attack, uncharacteristic nervy defending has returned. Regaining the defensive stability of years past could prove helpful to Bayern.
Mönchengladbach form analysis
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s recent results have showcased promising attacking talent but defensive issues costing crucial points. On December 16th at home to Werder Bremen, Gladbach fought back from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 before conceding late to draw 2-2 despite goals from Rocco Reitz. One week later away to Eintracht Frankfurt, it was more late defensive problems as Frankfurt scored twice in stoppage time to stun Gladbach 2-1 despite Max Wöber putting them ahead.
However Gladbach produced an emphatic performance on January 14th, routing Stuttgart 3-1 thanks to a brace from emerging 19-year-old striker Rocco Hack and a Jordan Siebatcheu strike. But defensive issues resurfaced a week later during a disappointing 2-1 home loss to struggling Augsburg, as Siebatcheu’s opener was rendered meaningless from two conceded goals. So while boasting firepower from the likes of Marcus Thuram, Siebatcheu and Jonas Hofmann, lingering defensive weaknesses have hindered Gladbach’s push up the Bundesliga table.
