Battles of Clubs for 5 Players this transfer window. It’s only natural for things to get heated during transfer windows when there is a conflict of interest between players and their respective clubs.
When the transfer window is open, players have the chance to choose a new team that is more suited for them or that offers them a greater paycheque.
Even though a player has stated a desire to depart, teams may not always be inclined to grant his demand. The player may be viewed as a significant asset by the organization, making it difficult for them to let him go.
Conflicts may also result from disagreements over contract terms, a player’s desire to play for a more prestigious team, or simply because prospective buyers aren’t willing to pay the asking price.
Without further ado, let’s look at five player-club conflicts that are currently occurring during the transfer window.
#5 Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)
One of the most gifted young forwards in the league right now is Joao Felix. He may choose to remain at Atletico Madrid despite their best efforts to sell him given the shockingly low level of interest in him this summer.
Felix will also want to leave, but the Rojiblancos won’t allow it because they paid him €127 million to sign him in the summer of 2019. Because of his disagreement with head coach Diego Simeone, the Portuguese attacker is unlikely to play a significant role for the team even if he stays.
Felix essentially wants to relocate no matter what. However, Atletico Madrid will not consider lowball bids for him. All parties concerned are far from happy with the current circumstances.
#4 Hakim Ziyech (Chelsea)
In the summer of 2020, Hakim Ziyech made the switch from Ajax to Chelsea. He has struggled to secure a starting position during his career at the club, and after making just six Premier League starts last season, he is currently a supporting player at Stamford Bridge.
This summer, the Moroccan international almost signed with Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia. However, they altered the initial offer made to the player and reduced it by 40% due to their worries regarding Ziyech’s hip and knee in medical testing. Ziyech declined the fresh proposal.
His future is still uncertain as of right now. Ziyech missed Chelsea’s preseason tour, and now his once-promising career is in doubt.
Chelsea and Ziyech have been at odds for some time. After Chelsea’s repeated failure to send the appropriate documentation for the agreement lost him a move to PSG during the winter transfer window, the argument reached unsavory levels.
#3 Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea)
Romelu Lukaku had everything in place to take the Premier League by storm after joining Chelsea in 2021 on a club-record-breaking transfer from Inter Milan. The Belgian striker, however, was a severe letdown during the 2021–22 campaign and was sent on loan to Inter Milan last summer.
Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, has now made it obvious that the club wants to permanently transfer Lukaku. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Chelsea board and the Argentine manager agree that Lukaku does not require a new contract with the team.
The deal for Lukaku to join Juventus appeared to be nearing completion, but the transfer now appears to be in limbo. Calcio Mercato reports that Chelsea has already accepted a bid from Al-Hilal for Lukaku worth €50 million. The 30-year-old does not, however, wish to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
The disagreement between Lukaku and Chelsea has other roots as well. The star striker wants to join the Nerazzurri on an initial loan agreement with a purchase possibility even if he wants to return to Inter Milan. The Blues are now seeking a long-term sale.
Lukaku’s salary at Chelsea exceeds €400,000 per week, therefore selling him might free up money for Chelsea to make other acquisitions this summer.
#2 Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
Harry Kane is simply too talented a player to be wasting his time at a team like Tottenham Hotspur, who haven’t won anything in a very long time. Some of the top teams in Europe are interested in signing Kane since he is one of the best attackers of his generation.
But prior to this summer, Spurs had never even attempted to enter into negotiations with a buyer about selling him. By opting not to extend his current contract, which expires next summer, Kane has forced them to go there.
Even while they don’t want to let him go this summer, they also don’t want to take a chance on losing Kane to a free transfer the following season. Kane has successfully intimidated the Spurs into considering bids for him as a result. The Englishman is reportedly getting closer to joining Bayern Munich.
#1 Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)
Last summer, Kylian Mbappe was frequently associated with Real Madrid. The Frenchman, though, made the rather unexpected decision to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. In 2022, he agreed to a two-year deal with an additional one-year option.
PSG has now learned that Mbappe has no intention of extending his contract through the summer of 2024, though. PSG will try to transfer him this summer if they can’t persuade him to sign a new contract by the end of July.
Mbappe has reportedly been told by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that if he doesn’t extend his contract, he will be sold. The Parisians are so angry with Mbappe because they are aware that they are the ones who are in danger in this scenario.
Real Madrid won’t want to make a sizable offer for Mbappe because he will be a free agent in the summer of 2019. As a result, according to RMC Sport, PSG may be obliged to accept a “low and insulting” offer from Los Blancos.
Mbappe cost PSG an astounding €180 million when he was signed in the summer of 2018, therefore his departure on a free transfer would be devastating to the team.
