Barcelona vs Granada: Preview
Barcelona form analysis
Barça have bounced back strongly from an inconsistent first half of the season, losing just once over their past five games to claim a top spot. After grinding out a nervy Copa del Rey 2-1 win away at Las Palmas, a 4-2 home thrashing of European hopefuls Real Betis marked a real statement of intent. A Ferran Torres hat trick inspired Barcelona to victory from two goals down in a high octane attacking display.
What followed though was an eight goal away at Champions League rivals Villarreal; twice surrendering the lead to trail before eventually losing out 5-3 in extra time. However, consecutive clean sheet league wins since have propelled Barcelona upwards. Grinding past mid-table Osasuna 1-0, Xavi’s pragmatic approach continued with a professional 3-1 win at mid-table Alaves last time out. Retaining control of midfield alongside Lewandowski’s ruthless finishing could see Barcelona at the top of the table.
Granada form analysis
Granada have struggled for form in recent matches, failing to win most of their last five La Liga games. Their last victory came over a month ago, on January 3rd, when they beat Cadiz 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Uzuni and Zaragoza. However, since then Granada have suffered three defeats and one draw. They lost 1-0 away to Real Betis, with Isco scoring the only goal of the game. Granada then suffered a humbling 1-0 home loss to Atletico Madrid, with Morata netting the winner.
Their recent 2-0 away defeat to Getafe was also disappointing, with Greenwood and Mayoral on target for Getafe. Most recently, Granada drew 1-1 at home with Las Palmas. They took the lead through a Méndez goal but conceded a second half equalizer from Pejiño. Overall, Granada’s form over the past month has been very poor. They seem to be struggling to score goals and are conceding too easily. The manager will hope to turn around their form quickly if they are to push through the relegation battle. Improving their home form against mid-table sides like Las Palmas will be crucial.
Barcelona vs Granada: Prediction
The last five matches at Camp Nou have had an average of five goals. Meanwhile the visitors have not kept a clean sheet in away league fixtures this season. A high scoring contest is hence likely on the cards.
The visitors are on a seven game losing streak in away league games and have lost all but one away league match all season. I don’t see them putting up a great fight against a club that have won all but three home league fixtures this season.
