Barcelona vs Getafe: Preview
Barcelona form analysis
Despite league position, Barcelona’s recent five game LaLiga run showcases a side still searching for consistency amid a transitional season. After twice blowing leads in an enthralling 3-5 home loss to Villarreal, Barca edged mid table Osasuna 1-0 thanks to wonderkid Vitor Roque’s winner. Roque was on target again alongside Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan in a 3-1 victory away at bottom placed Alaves.
However, defensive issues soon resurfaced – Granada scored three times at the Nou Camp including a late equalizer to claim a 3-3 draw, leaving Barcelona rueing missed chances. Most recently, Barcelona required a dramatic stoppage time Lewandowski winner to clinch a vital 2-1 victory at Celta Vigo after Iago Aspas had cancelled out the Pole’s first half opener. So while boasting LaLiga’s most potent attack, Barcelona’s erratic defensive displays have cost crucial points during this spell. Solving these flaws remains crucial to Barca’s hopes of sealing Champions League qualification.
Getafe form analysis
Getafe has had an up and down February in La Liga so far, securing wins against Granada and Celta Vigo but also suffering defeats to Real Madrid and a draw with Real Betis. In their 30th January clash with Granada, Getafe secured a 2-0 home win thanks to goals from M. Greenwood and Borja Mayoral. They were unable to build on that result in their next match though, suffering a 2-0 away defeat to Real Madrid on 2nd February in a match where Joselu scored both goals for Los Blancos.
Getafe did manage to take the lead away to Real Betis on 4th February through a M. Greenwood penalty, but were pegged back in the second half as Betis equalized from the penalty spot through Isco. Their most recent La Liga match saw them claim an exciting 3-2 home victory over Celta Vigo, with Borja Mayoral, Jaime Mata (2) and Celta’s J. Strand Larsen and T. Allende getting on the scoresheet in a back and forth contest. Most recently on 17th February Getafe secured a credible 1-1 away draw with Villarreal thanks to N. Maksimović’s opener before being equalized by Alberto Moreno.
