Barbastro vs Barcelona: Preview
Barbastro form analysis
Unión Deportiva Barbastro have hit a strong run of form in recent matches across both the Segunda Division RFEF and the Copa del Rey. They started this good stretch with a narrow 1-0 home win over Calahorra in the league on November 26th, with Adrià de Mesa netting what proved to be the winner in the 51st minute. Barbastro then ground out a solid 0-0 away draw against Tudelano on December 2nd to extend their unbeaten run. They followed that up with an impressive 1-0 home win over La Liga side Almeria in the Copa del Rey on December 6th, with Franc Carbonell scoring the only goal in the 28th minute.
Barbastro then thrashed Náxara 3-0 at home in the league on December 10th courtesy of goals from Adrià de Mesa, Marc Prat and Gonpi. Most recently, on December 16th, Barbastro secured a hard fought 1-0 away win over Real Sociedad’s B team thanks to Marc Prat’s 7th minute strike. With four wins and a draw from their last five games, Barbastro are in red hot form right now. If they can sustain this run it could catapult them up the Segunda Division RFEF table.
Barcelona form analysis
Barcelona’s recent form has been inconsistent, both in La Liga and the Champions League group stage. They started this run with a 1-0 home win over Atlético Madrid in La Liga on December 4th thanks to João Félix’s 28th minute strike. However, Barcelona were then stunned in a 4-2 home loss to Girona on December 11th, despite goals from Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gündogan; Girona ruthlessly exposed Barcelona’s defensive fragilities. Barcelona then drew 1-1 away to Valencia on December 17th after giving up their lead, before rebounding with a 3-2 home win over Almeria on December 20th in a thrilling game secured late on by Sergi Roberto’s second goal.
Most recently on January 5th, Barcelona had to come from behind to beat Las Palmas 2-1 away courtesy of second half goals from Ferran Torres and a 90th minute Gündogan penalty after Mubarak El Haddadi had given Las Palmas a first half lead. Overall, defensive lapses and conceding costly late goals have prevented Barcelona from finding consistency, despite no shortage of attacking threat with Lewando wski and João Félix leading the line. Shoring up defensively could help them find better form.
