Bangladesh Bowler Reprimanded for ICC Code of Conduct Violation
Bangladesh seamer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been fined 15 percent of his match fee for a code of conduct violation during Bangladesh’s final group fixture against Nepal at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
The incident occurred in the third over of Nepal’s chase when Tanzim engaged in a mid-pitch conversation with Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel. Despite this, Tanzim delivered an exceptional performance, finishing with a match-winning spell of 4/7, leading Bangladesh to a 21-run victory.
Tanzim was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator) during an International Match.” The charges were brought by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena.
Tanzim admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, negating the need for a formal hearing.
Bangladesh’s victory over Nepal secured their progression to the Super Eight stage of the tournament. They are set to face Australia in their next match in Antigua on Thursday.
