Bangladesh’s fast bowler Ebadot Hossain will not be participating in the 2018 Asia Cup due to an injury. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, an unproven pacer, will take his place. Ten days prior, Shakib Al Hasan was named the new captain of Bangladesh’s 17-member Asia Cup team. Ebdaot suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Ebdaot, who is a member of the original team, suffered an injury during Bangladesh’s ODI series against Afghanistan last month. The right-arm will require at least six weeks of rehabilitation. The BCB does not want to run the danger of worsening Ebadot’s injury given that the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is less than two months away. Bangladesh Bowler Ebadot Hossain Out Of Asia Cup
According to Dr. Debashis Chowdhury, head sports physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), as reported by ICC, “Ebadot underwent rehabilitation for six weeks after the accident. Since then, we’ve had several MRIs, and the results indicate that his ACL is still a problem and has to be managed further. As a result, he is excluded from the Asia Cup.”
Given the significance of the ICC World Cup in October, the Bangladesh team’s next major competition, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as soon as possible, including consultation and treatment abroad.
Tanzim Hasan Sakib, a 20-year-old pacer without experience, has been selected by the BCB National Selection Panel to replace Ebadot. The young cricketer, who played for Bangladesh in the team that won the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2020, also had a strong showing in the just-finished Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Men’s Asia Cup, taking nine wickets in three matches.
Towhid Hridoy, Shoriful Islam, Shamim Hossain, and Tanzid Hasan Tamim were the other four members of the squad. These players also competed on the victorious 2020 ICC U19 World Cup team.
The revised Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup includes Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Kumer Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Naim Sheikh, Shamim Hossain, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
