BAN vs SL T20Is: According to recent reports, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has made a significant change in the T20I squad, replacing Kusal Perera with Niroshan Dickwella. Perera’s absence comes as he battles a respiratory infection, unfortunately sidelining him for the crucial series leading up to this year’s World Cup.
With the bilateral series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh set to kick off on March 4th in Sylhet, this substitution adds an unexpected twist to the lineup and sets the stage for an intriguing showdown.
Notably, the Bangladesh Premier League is still ongoing, with the final showdown scheduled between Comilla Victorians and Fortune Barishal on March 1st. Interestingly, despite the ongoing tournament, Sri Lankan players have already made their way to Bangladesh to catch the finals.
However, with the recent replacement of Kusal Perera by Niroshan Dickwella in the T20I squad, Dickwella is set to join the team on March 2nd for the upcoming bilateral series.
With Kusal Perera sidelined, Sri Lanka finds itself facing a significant challenge at the top of the order, missing their regular openers. Adding to their woes, Patthum Nissanka’s absence further complicates the situation for the team. As a result, there is a possibility that Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella may step up to open the game for Sri Lanka in the bilateral series.
In addition to the potential pairing of Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella at the top, Sri Lanka is considering another dynamic option: Avishka Fernando leading the charge, with Kusal Mendis possibly shifting to No. 3.
Shakib Al Hasan To Be Unavailable for BAN vs SL T20Is
Players such as Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka are anticipated to solidify the middle order, providing stability and firepower. Furthermore, experienced stalwarts like Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka are poised to anchor the team’s innings, bringing their wealth of experience to the fore.
However, the team management faces a dilemma in the selection of the final batting position, with both Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva vying for the spot.
On the other hand, Bangladesh will face a setback as they will be without the services of their veteran all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, for the bilateral series. His absence will undoubtedly leave a void in the team, prompting them to strategize and find suitable replacements as they gear up for their final campaign before the ICC World Cup kicks off in June.
