The president of the Indian Wrestling Federation and a politician for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has denied any misconduct. According to HS Jaspal, the case will be heard by the magistrate next Thursday.
According to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s attorney, AP Singh, “Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is innocent. The chargesheet filed against him is full of lies. It is a part of political conspiracy.” The Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet after protests by wrestlers, led by Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Mallik, calling for the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
According to the Delhi Police, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar are both charged for trial “without arrest.” They fulfilled the requirements under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code by entering the investigation. According to the Delhi Police chargesheet, Singh was “liable to be prosecuted and punished for offenses” of sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking. This accusation is based on the “investigation so far” of the accusations made by six prominent wrestlers.
There are a total of 21 witnesses that have testified against Singh. Six of them have already provided their CRPC 164 statements.
