Ayesha Curry and Sonya Curry in Altercation with Paris Police at Olympic Grounds
Ayesha Curry and her mother-in-law, Sonya Curry, were involved in a tense encounter with Paris police over the weekend while attempting to leave the Olympic grounds. The altercation occurred as French President Emmanuel Macron was also exiting the area, leading to heightened security measures.
In a video shared by The Hollywood Fix on X, the two women can be seen in a heated exchange with police officers. Sonya Curry is heard admonishing an officer for allegedly touching Ayesha and Steph Curry’s newborn son, Caius, during the confrontation. Ayesha, visibly upset, stood nearby as the situation unfolded.
According to the video, Sonya Curry demanded to be allowed access to their vehicle, which was parked nearby. The police, however, explained that due to the president’s presence, no one was permitted to move in that area at the time. Despite the explanation, the Currys expressed frustration over the situation, with Sonya insisting they were simply trying to return to their car.
Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green, who was accompanying the family, also confronted the authorities, asking, “So even after him hitting the baby in the head, there’s still nothing y’all can do to get them out of here?” The video does not show any clear evidence of the baby being struck.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 10, shortly after Steph Curry secured a gold medal in the men’s basketball final at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. The victory was a significant milestone for the 36-year-old NBA star, who was competing in his first Olympic Games alongside fellow all-stars LeBron James and others.
Before the altercation, Ayesha, Sonya, and Green were seen cheering on Team USA from the sidelines. Following the win, Steph Curry ran over to his family in celebration. Ayesha, joined by Sonya and her two children, Canon Jack, 6, and newborn Caius, was preparing to leave the area when the encounter with police occurred.
The video, now circulating widely online, captures Sonya Curry’s repeated attempts to convince the officers to let them pass. “They won’t let us go back over there where we came from,” Sonya is heard saying. “They won’t let the driver come here and they won’t let us go back over there.”
The situation eventually resolved without further incident, but the video has sparked discussion about the challenges of navigating public spaces during high-security events. As of now, neither the Curry family nor the Paris police have issued any official statements regarding the incident.
