AUS vs ENG 1st T20I: The much-anticipated T20I series between England and Australia starts on Wednesday, with the first game at the Rose Bowl stadium in Southampton. Australia are coming into the series riding high on confidence.
They thrashed Scotland 3-0 in their last T20I assignment and would be hoping to replicate a similar result. The home team, on the other hand, just completed a 2-1 Test series win over Sri Lanka.
As far as the T20Is are concerned, they last appeared in the T20I World Cup. India knocked them out in the semi-final with a 68-run defeat. Jos Buttler and Co. would look to make a fresh and confident start.
Australia Review
There is no denying that Australia possesses one of the most dangerous batting units in the shortest format. Travis Head went berserk against Scotland and he has an able partner in skipper Mitchell Marsh, who has been equally brutal. Jake Frazer-McGurk hasn’t had a great start to his T20I career and he will look to make amends in the upcoming series.
In the third T20I against Scotland, Josh Inglis smashed the fastest T20I century by an Australian batter. He will be a player to watch out for in the series. The lower-order middle-order possesses strong depth, having the likes of Chris Green, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David.
Josh Hazlewood will lead the pace attack. Both Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been rested for the series.
England Review
England announced that they were playing XI for the first T20I against Australia. Both Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow won’t be part of the series. Regular skipper, Jos Buttler has been sidelined due to injury and thus Phil Salt will lead the side. He will open the innings alongside Will Jacks. The latter showed in the IPL what he can do with the bat.
Jordan Cox will be seen batting at three, followed by Livingstone at four. Livingstone isn’t in the best of forms and it remains to be seen if he performs well. Sam Curran was phenomenal with bat and ball in The Hundred. He will be a player to look out for. On the back of The Hundred’s performances, Bethell has also earned his place. He will provide stability to the team.
Jofra Archer will shoulder the fast bowling responsibilities alongside Mahmood and Topley. Adil Rashid should continue to spearhead the spin attack.
ENG vs AUS Today Match Prediction
Australia are coming off a 3-0 win over Scotland and will give a tough competition to the home side. Given the kind of form they are in, Australia are likely to put on a show despite not playing at home.
With the absence of senior pros, it will be difficult for England to overcome the Australia challenge. We are backing the Aussies to win the first game.
