Australia vs England, 1st ODI- Match Preview
AUS vs ENG 1st ODI: After the T20I series ended in a 1-1 draw, England and Australia will now clash in five ODIs. The first ODI is scheduled to take place at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday. England regular skipper, Jos Buttler continues to miss out due to injury. Phil Salt led the side in the T20Is, while Harry Brook has been given the leadership duties in the ODI series.
On the other hand, Australia will welcome some big names in the ODI series, namely Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschage, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc etc. They have an outstanding record against England in ODIs and would look to dish out another dominant performance in the away series.
England Team Preview
Just like in T20Is, England will miss Jos Buttler’s services a lot. In his absence, the responsibility will be on the likes of Harry Brook, Philip Salt and Liam Livingstone. Ben Duckett will be having a chance to showcase his mettle and seal his spot in the line-up.
England have also added new sensation, Jacob Bethell into the side. He showed his class in the T20I series and will be a player to watch out for in the ODI series. Jofra Archer is present in the ODI squad as well and will spearhead the attack.
He will share the responsibilities alongside Reece Topley, S Mahmood etc. Adil Rashid will continue to take the load in the spin department.
Australia Team Review
Australia looks much stronger than the squad that played the T20I series. The incoming of Steve Smith and Labuschagne bolster the middle-order, while the likes of Cameron Green, Maxwell should add that depth in the batting.
Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead the team, while J Fraser-McGurk is likely to open alongside Travis Head. Alex Carey has come back into the side, while Josh Inglis has been picked as the second option.
In the pace department, Mitchell Starc will shoulder the responsibility with Hazlewood. Ben Dwarshuis has been picked as the third seamer as Pat Cummins continues to rest. Adam Zampa is the frontline spinner in the squad.

Australia and England are both top sides. However, England are currently in transitioning phase and doesn’t have a lot of experienced under the belt. The injury to Jos Buttler only makes things hard for them. Looking at the team combination of both teams, Australia look favourites to win the game.
