Atletico Madrid vs Alaves: Preview
Atletico Madrid form analysis
Atleti’s recent run of form has showcased their attacking talents while also highlighting some defensive vulnerabilities. They started this spell in excellent fashion, beating rivals Real Madrid 3-1 at home thanks to goals from Morata, Griezmann and another Morata strike. They backed this up with a solid 2-0 away win at Osasuna courtesy of Griezmann and Riquelme goals.
However, defensive issues crept in during a thrilling 3-2 home win over Cadiz, where despite going 2-0 down, Atletico showed resilience to fight back and claim the points through Correa’s double and Molina’s equalizer. Up against Real Sociedad, Atletico had to come from behind again to win 2-1 after Oyarzabal’s leveler, with Griezmann netting the winner from the penalty spot. Most recently, Atletico tore apart Celta Vigo on the road, winning 3-0 with Griezmann bagging a sublime hat-trick.
Overall, Atletico’s attack is clicking nicely but the defense remains a worry, having conceded in their last 4 games. Solidifying at the back will be key if Atletico hopes to challenge for the title.
Alaves form analysis
Alaves’ recent run of form paints a bleak picture as they continue to struggle at both ends of the pitch. They started this spell with an expected 2-0 home loss against Athletic Bilbao, unable to contain the visitor’s attack. Things improved slightly with a gritty 1-1 draw away to Celta Vigo, where an own goal saw them take a surprise lead before conceding late.
However, Alaves then suffered another home loss 2-0 to Osasuna, with more poor defending on show. They stopped the rot with a fortuitous 1-1 draw against Real Betis, going behind early before a lucky own goal pegged Betis back, allowing Alaves to claim a point. Most recently, they earned another draw 1-1 away to Villarreal thanks to a clinical Samu goal before conceding a second half penalty.
Overall, Alaves has lacked attacking spark, scoring just 3 goals in 5 games, while also looking vulnerable defensively. With 1 win all season, confidence seems low. To avoid relegation, Alaves must start winning games and fast, but based on current form they face an uphill battle to survive.
