Aston Villa vs Fulham: Preview
Aston Villa form analysis
Villa’s recent run of games has showcased their impressive attack but defensive issues persist. They started with a stunning 6-1 home thrashing of Brighton thanks to goals from Watkins, Estupinan’s own goal, two from Watkins again alongside strikes from Ramsey and Douglas Luiz. However, problems at the back surfaced next game despite drawing 1-1 away at Wolves, conceding easily from a set piece. Back on track next up, Villa’s attack fired again in a 4-1 home win over West Ham courtesy of Douglas Luiz, two penalties from Douglas Luiz and Watkins.
This continued next match, comfortably beating Luton 3-1 at home with goals from McGinn, Diaby and an own goal. However, familiar defensive struggles struck in their latest game, losing 0-2 away at Forest and never recovering after going behind early. Overall, Villa have looked extremely dangerous going forward but remain far too open defensively. Finding greater solidity will be key to sustaining a push for Europe this season.
Fulham form analysis
Fulham’s return to the Premier League has seen them remain competitive but with clear limitations. They started with an expected 0-2 home loss to Chelsea, unable to contain their slick passing and movement. There was an improved performance next game, beating Sheffield United 3-1 at home with goals from Decordova-Reid, an own goal and Willian. However, problems surfaced in a disappointing 0-2 home loss to Spurs, passive defensively and lacking in attack.
Things improved in their next match as they battled impressively to draw 1-1 away at Brighton, equalizing through Palhinha despite intense pressure. Most recently they suffered late heartbreak, losing 0-1 at home to Man Utd courtesy of a 90th minute Fernandes goal in a game they matched the visitors. Overall, Fulham have remained organized defensively but lacked attacking flair. Adding goals will be crucial if their stubbornness is to translate into enough points to avoid relegation this season.
