With 16 players, the Indian women’s softball team will debut in 2023 at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The Shaoxing Baseball & Softball Sports Centre will host the softball tournament from September 26 to October 3. Since the Indian women’s softball team often competes in the Asian championships, Softball Asia, the region’s governing organization for the sport, granted India a wildcard for the continental competition last year. In addition to the Indian squad chosen by the Softball Association of India following the trials held in Delhi in June and July, one standby player and three reserves were also chosen. Asian Games 2023: Full Squad Of Indian Women’s Softball Team
The team last participated in the Women’s Asia Cup in April 2023. The team stood in last place after losing all of their games. The Indian women’s softball team, which is currently rated 50th in the world, will compete at the Asian Games against some of the higher-ranked teams.
Teams from Singapore, Chinese Taipei, The Philippines, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand are making their debuts at the 2019 softball competition. World No. 2 Japan is the current champion and has taken home the gold medal in the Asian Games five times in a row, dating back to Busan 2002. China is the next-best nation with three top finishes.
Teams will be split into two groups for the softball event at the Asian Games in 2023. The top three teams from each group advance to the Super Round after the group stage. The fourth- and fifth-placed nations play for classification.
The Super Round’s top-two teams will compete for the gold medal. While the third- and fourth-placed teams will compete for the bronze.
Softball made its debut when Beijing hosted the quadrennial event in 1990. In London 2012 and Rio 2016, the sport was removed from the Olympic schedule. However, Tokyo 2020 saw a return of the event. However, it won’t be present for the Olympics in Paris in 2024.
