Clouds surround the commencement of the IND vs. PAK fixture even on Reserve day as Rain continues to play a spoilsport resulting in the delay of resumption of the much-anticipated fixture even on reserve day, Monday. If the match gets washed out then both India & Pakistan will share one point each.
If the India vs. Pakistan fixture gets washed out then India will have just one point in their kitty. While Sri lanka & Pakistan will be ahead of them with two points after winning their fixtures against Bangladesh. Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the first match of the Super 4 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore last week. Sri Lanka also notched up a 21-run win over Bangladesh in their first game of Super 4 last week at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
What will be the Qualification Scenario if the IND vs. PAK fixture gets Wash Out
If India’s fixture against Pakistan gets washed out on Monday both the teams will share one point. And with that Pakistan will have 3 points from 2 fixtures with one more game left against Sri Lanka. On the other hand, India will have just one point with two fixtures against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on Wednesday and Friday respectively.
So if India gets an opportunity to play full-fledged fixtures against Sri Lanka & Bangladesh & beat both of them then they can have five points in their kitty. While Pakistan too can be on 5 points if they beat Sri lanka in their last Super 4 match. But if they lose to Sri Lanka on Wednesday, they can achieve just 3 points & they will have to hope that Sri Lanka beats Pakistan in their last Super 4 match so that both India & Pakistan can end their league stage with 3 points & the final place will be decided on the basis of NRR.
If India loses to Sri Lanka & Pakistan beats Sri Lanka in their last fixture then Sri lanka & Pakistan will qualify for the Asia Cup 2023 final with 4 and 5 points respectively. While India will get out of the finals race with 3 points in their kitty. If all three of India’s fixtures in Super 4 are washed out due to rain, Pakistan & Sri lanka will qualify for the Final thanks to their early wins over underdog Bangladesh.
