Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan’s opening partnership of fifty runs helped India win the Asia Cup trophy for the eighth time in style by defeating the co-hosts on Sunday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, after speedster Mohammed Siraj’s devastating spell that destroyed Sri Lanka. Shanaka apologized for the significant loss and thanked the large audience for coming out in support of the Sri Lankan side. He said, “I want to thank the many admirers that came, and I’m sorry we let you down. We genuinely adore you.”
In a post-game presentation, Dasun Shanaka congratulated the Indian team for the kind of cricket they were playing.
Siraj, who was in charge of the India fast bowling effort, led the top order of Sri Lanka through the roof in the summit match. India only needed a little more than two hours to win the Asia Cup for the eighth time. After five years, the Men in Blue finally grabbed the Asia Cup title.
Shanaka praised India for their victory and gave Mohammed Siraj some sage advice.
“Siraj put on an excellent bowling performance; kudos to him for his strategy. I originally believed that would be a decent pitch for the hitters, but the cloudy weather had something to do with it, and it was a really difficult day. Of course, we might have improved the application, tightened our technique a little to calm down and liberate our arms in the middle time,” Shanaka added.
He also praised a few of his players for their efforts in this match. He went under the identities Charith Asalanka, Kusal Perera, and Sadeera Samarawickrama and claimed to be a future celebrity.
“A great takeaway is how Charith Asalanka batted and how he’s taking the pressure effectively, as well as how Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis batted in the middle session in spinning circumstances. These three will function and operate well in Indian circumstances. The two other fast bowlers, Kasun Rajitha and Pramod Madushan, as well as Dunith Wellalage, Mahesh Theekshana, and Matheesha Pathirana, believe they will do well in the next World Cup. The good news is that we still played strong teams in the final despite missing five key players. From where we started two years ago, it’s a positive indicator,” he continued.
Due in large part to Siraj’s outstanding performance, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 50 runs in just 15.2 overs. It was a stunning display of bowling power. Siraj claimed six wickets in seven overs.
India’s reaction saw them defeat the target by 10 wickets in just 37 deliveries. By the number of balls still in the innings, this is both India’s largest triumph and Sri Lanka’s worst loss.
