Delhi Capitals’ pacer, Arundhati Reddy found herself in trouble due to her on-field antics during the match against UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League 2024 on Monday.
Arundhati Reddy breached WPL’s code of conduct during the game after picking the wicket of Poonam Khemnar.
Arundhati Reddy Fined 10% of Match Fees
“Arundhati Reddy from Delhi Capitals has been fined 10 per cent of her match fees for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during her team’s match against UP Warriorz at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday,” said a WPL statement.
“Arundhati admitted to the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.5 of the WPL’s Code of Conduct which relates to using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon her dismissal during a match.
“For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the statement added.
Arundhati Reddy picked one wicket for 16 runs in three overs during the game.
Delhi Beat UP Warriorz by 9 wickets to earn first win
After losing their first match against Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals made a strong comeback in their next match against UP Warriorz on Tuesday. Riding on impressive bowling spells from Marizanne Kapp and Radha Yadav, Delhi Capitals restricted UP Warriorz to 119 runs in the first innings.
Marizanne Kapp ran through Delhi’s top order as she picked the wickets of the top three batters for just 16 runs on the board inside the first five overs. Radha Yadav compounded UP’s woes by chipping in with wickets regularly post the power play.
She went on to pick four wickets while giving away just 20 runs in her quota of four overs. Shweta Sehrawat top-scored with the bat, smashing 45 runs in 42 deliveries, including 5 fours and 1 six.
In reply, Delhi Capitals chased down the target in just 14.3 overs. Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma gave no chance to the opposition bowlers as the duo added 119 runs for the opening wicket.
Lanning got out in the 15th over after for 51 off 43 but had done her job. Shafali Verma produced a batting masterclass display, notching 64 runs in just 43 deliveries, a knock that was laced with six fours and four sixes.
Delhi Capitals are due to play their next match against RCB on Thursday. UP Warriors, on the other hand, have played two matches this season but are yet to earn their first win. Healy and Co. will play their third match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday.
