Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur: Preview
Arsenal form analysis
AFC made a winning start to the Premier League season by grinding out a 1-0 victory away at Crystal Palace thanks to an Odegaard penalty. However, some defensive weaknesses were exposed in their next match as they drew 2-2 at home to Fulham, needing late goals from Saka and Nketiah to rescue a point.
A big 3-1 win over rivals Manchester United followed, with Odegaard and new signing Gabriel Jesus on target, showing their attacking threat. But Arsenal underperformed again in a scrappy 1-0 win away at Everton. They required a second half Trossard goal to take the points. That demonstrated Arsenal’s difficulty in breaking down stubborn defensive sides.
Most recently however, Arsenal produced their best performance of the season so far by demolishing PSV 4-0 in the Champions League. Saka, Trossard, Jesus and Odegaard all scored as Arsenal showcased their firepower.
Overall, Arsenal have shown they can beat top teams, but need to find more consistency against defensive opposition. Their attack seems to have clicked into top gear, but defensively they remain prone to lapses.
Tottenham Hotspur form analysis
Tottenham started the Premier League season with a 2-2 draw away at Brentford despite taking an early lead through Romero. Defensive weaknesses were exposed as they conceded twice in the first half. A much improved performance saw them beat Manchester United 2-0 at home, with Sarr and an own goal sealing the win.
Spurs built on that with a professional 2-0 victory away at Bournemouth, thanks to goals from Maddison and Kulusevski. Their defensive issues returned in a 5-2 win away at Burnley, requiring a Son hat-trick to take the points after going behind early.
Most recently, Spurs showed resilience to beat Sheffield United 2-1 at home after going behind late on. Richarlison and Kulusevski scored injury time goals to dramatically turn the match around.
Overall, Spurs have shown they can effectively beat weaker opposition, with Son and Kulusevski impressing in attack. However, defensive lapses, especially on the road, remain a big concern.
