The Gunners have shown real title credentials in their recent Premier League matches, despite the odd setback. They started this period by grinding out a 0-1 away win at Everton thanks to new signing Trossard’s first goal. A thrilling 2-2 draw with local rivals Spurs followed as Saka’s penalty salvaged a point after Son’s brace had cancelled out Romero’s own goal. Arsenal got back on track with an emphatic 0-4 win away at Bournemouth, highlighted by Saka’s brilliant display. They then edged past league leaders Man City 1-0 through Martinelli’s strike in a pivotal victory. However, Arsenal’s defensive weaknesses resurfaced as they drew 2-2 away at Chelsea, throwing away a two-goal lead despite more magic from Saka.
Overall, manager Mikel Arteta seems to have crafted an excellent blend of steel and attacking flair. Big wins at Bournemouth and Everton showcased their quality. But occasional lapses of concentration like against Spurs and Chelsea need ironing out. With Saka in the form of his life, Arsenal have real momentum. If Arteta can add greater defensive solidity, Arsenal could emerge as genuine title challengers this season yet again
Sheffield United form analysis
Sheffield United’s recent results highlight a club struggling to compete in the Premier League after gaining promotion last season. They started brightly by taking a shock lead at Tottenham, but capitulated late on in a 1-2 loss. Things deteriorated rapidly as they were thrashed 0-8 at home by Newcastle – their heaviest league defeat in history. Next up Sheffield United lost 0-2 at West Ham, with Bowen and Soucek scoring. They suffered another blow in a 1-3 home loss to Fulham, with Robinson’s own goal their only consolation. Most recently, despite McBurnie’s penalty briefly levelling, Sheffield United lost 1-2 at home to Manchester United after more late heartbreak.
Overall it’s been a chastening experience back in the top flight for Sheffield United. They have looked extremely vulnerable defensively, conceding 16 goals in this spell. Boss Paul Heckingbottom has struggled to organize or motivate the team during this difficult spell. If Sheffield United’s form does not improve soon, a swift return to the Championship seems inevitable. Boosting fragile confidence and tightening up defensively must be the priorities now for Heckingbottom.
