FA Community Shield

6th August 2023
Wembley Stadium
After engaging in a close battle for the Premier league title last season, Arsenal and Manchester CIty will lock horns once again. This time at Wembley with the FA Community Shield on the line. A glorified pre-season match in few eyes, lifting the shield will certainly set the tone for the team’s title aspirations early on in the season.
Arsenal vs Manchester City: Form analysis
Arsenal
The Gunners had a dreadful end to last season. The club managed just three wins in their last nine Premier League fixtures. Furthermore, they lost two of their last three league matches. The club has since had a few notable additions to the squad and also have a much fitter squad now.
Their pre-season campaign was certainly better. However, they also showed certain vulnerabilities they should work on. The Londoners have shown their class while going forward, but have conceded a few more than they would like.
Manchester City
The Cityzens are off the back of a historic season, completing the treble. However, the club didn’t really have a dominant ending to the previous season. They dropped points in back to back fixtures against Brighton and Brentford.
Their FA Cup final display did the job to say the least. Their performance against Inter Milan in the Champions League final was anything but their usual flow of play. In all honesty, the Milan club could and should have brought a tougher fight if not for their poor finishing all game.
Arsenal vs Manchester City: Prediction
With the quality of players available at the disposal of either manager it would be interesting to see who makes the starting eleven. However, one thing’s for certain and that is we see an entertaining fixture. Just as we have always witnessed when these managers have come up against one another.
Both teams have too much quality in their attack for us to witness a clean sheet from either side. Moreover, with the teams just back from the pre-season, it is not likely we see a highly organized defense as we would normally expect.
