The British boxer Anthony Joshua is currently on great momentum following his stunning wins over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou. Eyeing a potential world title clash in September, Joshua has ramped up anticipation by sharing an important update on social media regarding negotiations for his next fight.
AJ hints a potential clash with Dubois
Joshua’s announcement hints at a potential fight with Daniel Dubois, who recently won the IBF interim championship by defeating Filip Hrgovic on June 1. The win came shortly after Dubois’ emphatic stoppage victory over Jarell Miller. The way for this potential bout was paved when current undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk agreed to a rematch with Tyson Fury, resulting in the Ukrainian being stripped of the IBF title.
Although Usyk has petitioned to keep the title so that his rematch with “The Gypsy King” can be for the undisputed title, it is unlikely that the IBF will allow the Ukrainian to keep the title due to its mandatory clause. “AJ” has been open about his ambition to reclaim the world title. This goal has been on his mind since his previous bouts with Usyk. The fight with Dubois will not only give Joshua a chance to recapture a world title but also set the stage for an eventual clash with the winner of the Usyk vs. Fury rematch that is scheduled for December 2021.
Joshua has the chance to face the winner of Usyk vs. Fury
If Joshua defeats Dubois, he is set to face the winner of Usyk vs. Fury in 2025, a fight that could drastically change the heavyweight division. If Usyk wins his rematch with Fury, there will be plenty of momentum for a trilogy clash between him and Joshua. According to a report, the International Boxing Federation has not received any official request to sanction the upcoming all-British heavyweight fight.
