In his most recent boxing clash in Saudi Arabia, the iconic boxer Deontay Wilder was knocked out by Zhilei Zhang. The British boxer, Anthony Joshua, who was ringside watching the match, gave his immediate reaction that was pitiless. The match between Wilder and the Chinese boxer ended in the fifth round, with the American being dropped to the floor by a devastating right hook from his opponent. Wilder bravely attempted to get to his feet, but the referee had seen enough and ended the fight.
“The Bronze Bomber” was hesitant to throw his famous straight right hand throughout the fight as “Big Bang” applied pressure. When Wilder opened up, he was ruthlessly countered by Zhang, and he was left confused and dizzy from the very first brutal counter. Deontay lost his chance at a mega fight with Anthony Joshua after he turned down the opportunity when he was still a WBC champion several years ago.
Joshua has no sympathy for Wilder
When AJ was asked if he felt bad about Wilder getting knocked out, Joshua simply said, ‘No’. The much-anticipated series of clashes between Joshua and Wilder has lost its appeal after Wilder’s recent defeat. Joshua’s focus remains unwavering, with potential bouts against Zhang or Daniel Dubois. When asked about his next opponent, he said, “They are all going to get a seeing to.”
The former WBC Champion Wilder hinted before the clash that his fight with Zhang could be his last. After the bout, Joshua advised Wilder to think carefully about his future in the sport.
The Bronze Bomber hinted retirement before the clash
Joshua also applauded Zhang’s skills, noting his Olympic pedigree and seasoned professionalism. “He went in there against a good fighter in Zhilei, he has got a great style,” said Joshua. Before the fight, Wilder admitted that the stakes were high and suggested he could retire with a loss. The former WBC champion stated that he had a successful career and this could be the end of his career. He further said this could be the final goodbye and farewell to Deontay Wilder, if he loses. The future remains uncertain for Deontay who has not formally announced his retirement, while Joshua is set to face a new challenger in the heavyweight division.
