June 15, Saturday saw former UFC superstars Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen face each other in an exhibition boxing match. In a matchup announced as Silva’s final fight in his native country, Brazil, “The Spider ” still showed some incredible speed and skill but never looked like he was really going for a knockout or strong attacks. Sonnen did his best to hang in front of Silva, but the fight looked pretty interesting as it was two veterans trying to put on a good show. Since this was an exhibition match, there was no winner and both boxers had their hands raised at the end of the match.
The UFC veterans were enjoying the fight
It was clear from the beginning that the two veterans were having fun out there in the ring. “The American Gangster” looked like he was trying to bully Silva around the ring and in return, “The Spider” landed his punches with speed but not a lot of power. Time and again, Sonnen moved forward, but he didn’t do much damage offensively. On the other hand, Silva landed a right jab at Sonnen’s face and then stepped away while the two men continued to trade blows at each other.
As the fight moved into the third round, Silva got a little busier, starting off with several quick combinations, forcing Sonnen to duck his head and cover up to avoid absorbing any serious damage. At times, Silva set up a nice lead jab with his left and followed it up with a right, but there was not much rhythm as he kept letting his opponent around. Sonnen did his best to tire Silva out, but the Brazilian still defended well.
Final round saw steady shots from both fighters
In the fourth round, Silva started to move around more, bouncing on his feet and throwing jabs and hooks with no power. His strongest punch came with an uppercut that appeared to stun Sonnen, but it wasn’t enough to really shake him. The final round saw steady shots from both fighters, though Silva managed to do enough damage to Sonnen’s nose. In the end, both fighters celebrated after the final bell rang.

After the fight, Silva spoke about his next fight scheduled for later this year, with the location possibly being Abu Dhabi, but he declined to reveal the name of his opponent just yet. As for Sonnen, he continues to call out Jorge Masvidal for a future boxing match.
