La Unión have shown exciting attacking potential but remain highly vulnerable defensively. If coach Gaizka Garitano cannot fix these glaring defensive problems, Almeria seem destined for an immediate return to the second division. However, if the boss can add defensive solidity to complement their attacking verve, Almeria could pull clear of danger given the firepower Suarez provides.
Las Palmas form analysis
Las Palmas’ recent form in La Liga highlights a side with fighting spirit but also flaws defensively and in converting chances. They started this period winning games late on – a 1-0 home victory over Granada thanks to Rodriguez’s 90th minute goal, and a 2-1 win against Celta in the cup as Viera and Cardona struck late. However Las Palmas then lost 0-2 at home to Real Madrid’s reserves. They came from behind to beat Villareal’s kids 2-1 away, with Coco and Cardona on target. But defensive issues cost them last time out as a late Bebe penalty saw them lose 0-1 at home to Rayo Vallecano.
Overall, Las Palmas have shown determination under Garcia Pimienta to grind out results late in games. But weaknesses at both ends have been apparent. Scoring early goals has been difficult and they’ve conceded decisive late strikes in 2 matches. Finding more 90 minute dominance in games is crucial – at present they are over-reliant on late dramatics.
