India’s Dramatic Comeback at Kanpur Test: A Stunning Victory Over Bangladesh
In a match where the weather seemed to favor a draw, India staged a remarkable comeback, defeating Bangladesh by a significant margin at the Green Park Stadium. Despite rain and a wet outfield delaying play, India took control as soon as the game resumed and clinched victory with more than 50 overs to spare.
Bangladesh, bowled out for just 146 in their second innings, left India needing only 96 runs to win—a target they chased down with ease.
The match took an intriguing turn when Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan expressed surprise at India’s aggressive batting strategy on the penultimate day. India had bowled out Bangladesh for 233 runs in the first innings, but their response was nothing short of explosive. India posted 285-9 in just 34.4 overs, maintaining a run rate of 8.28—unheard of in Test cricket.
Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma set the tone early, racing to 50 runs off just 18 balls, breaking the record for the fastest 50 in Test history.
Jaiswal, continuing his impressive form, scored 72 off 51 balls, while KL Rahul returned to form with 68 off just 43 balls. Further contributions from Virat Kohli (47) and Shubman Gill (39) ensured India’s dominance.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Mehidy Hasan said, “They played with a good plan, and yes, I was surprised. After two or three overs, we realized they were playing with a specific strategy. In Test cricket, you can see different scenarios, and today, it looked more like T20 cricket.”
Hasan acknowledged that his team had been on the back foot and admitted they were more focused on safety than winning. “We need more time if we want to play for a win. Our priority is to bat for a long time tomorrow and save the match.”
Unfortunately for Bangladesh, Mominul Haque’s valiant unbeaten knock of 107 off 194 balls in the first innings wasn’t enough. Hasan admitted the other batters failed to support Mominul, a factor that could have changed the game. “If we had supported Mominul bhai better, the game could have been different,” he added.
In the end, India’s aggressive approach and Bangladesh’s batting collapse in the second innings paved the way for a comprehensive win, marking another thrilling chapter in Test cricket.
