Former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel has shared his thoughts on the upcoming performance of young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, emphasizing that all eyes will be on him during India’s five-match Test series against Australia. Jaiswal, who struggled during the recent South Africa tour, will face a new challenge after managing only 50 runs in two Tests against the Proteas.
However, earlier this year, Jaiswal was in phenomenal form against England. The left-hander racked up 712 runs in five matches, maintaining a remarkable average of 89 and an impressive strike rate of 79.91. His performance was instrumental in India’s 4-1 series victory, earning him the Player of the Series award.
In the two-Test series against Bangladesh, Jaiswal continued to impress, accumulating 189 runs over four innings at an average of 47.25. He was named Player of the Match in the second Test in Kanpur, where he scored twin fifties.
Parthiv Patel highlighted the significance of Jaiswal’s upcoming performance in Australia. “When a player excels in India, the next challenge is how they perform overseas.
His South African tour wasn’t great, so now the focus is on how he will handle Australian conditions. Scoring runs abroad cements a player’s status as an all-round batter,” Patel said on Colors Cineplex.
Patel also praised Jaiswal’s improved handling of short-pitched bowling, particularly against Bangladesh’s fast bowlers. “We’ve seen a lot of growth in the past year. He played the short ball well, especially against a quick Bangladesh attack, and that’s a promising sign,” he noted.
Additionally, Patel commended Jaiswal’s adaptability and ability to assess conditions. “He’s become good at understanding which shots work on different pitches and where he needs to defend. If you talk about his skillset, Yashasvi has everything needed to succeed,” Patel said.
India’s first Test against Australia is set to begin on November 22 in Perth, where Jaiswal will aim to prove his mettle in overseas conditions.
