UFC Lightweight Champion Alex Pereira has announced that he is coming back to the middleweight division again. The Brazilian made this announcement after the highly anticipated match between Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 ended. During the match, “Stillknocks” looked dominant from the start while “The Last Stylebender” was struggling with the striking. Interestingly, prior to the fight, most people claimed that Adesanya would win the fight and voted for him, but Du Plessis turned all the tables at UFC 305.
Alex Pereira made the announcement via Instagram
The match caught Alex Pereira’s attention and he probably saw the whole fight. Reacting to Du Plessis victory, “Poatan” took to Instagram and posted a photo seated in front of his TV, where Dricus Du Plessis was on the screen in the Octagon after his victory. Pereira wrote in the caption, “I’m going down to 84 kg again…coming down to 185 one more time.”
Alex Pereira has fought in the UFC’s middleweight division before and also faced off against Israel Adesanya. “Poatan” defeated “The Last Stylebender” to win the middleweight championship but lost against him in the rematch. Pereira eventually moved up to the light heavyweight division.
However, despite Pereira’s recent Instagram post, it is unlikely he will move down to the division because there are rumors that he is trying to make a move to the heavyweight division. After defeating Jamahal Hill and Jiri Prochazka this year, “Poatan” said he wanted even tougher challenges. The Brazilian expressed his desire to fight in the heavyweight division, which led to speculations of him facing Jon Jones in a super fight.
Tom Aspinall called out Pereira
Interim Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall reacted to this possibility and called out Pereira for a match, which was opposed by UFC CEO Dana White. Currently, Pereira is set to face Khalil Rountree Jr. and will defend his Light Heavyweight championship for the third time this year. “Poatan” is currently having an impressive run in the UFC and will look to continue this. The matchup has sparked a lot of outrage among the MMA community, as many think Khalil Rountree Jr. getting a title shot seems like a far-fetched idea. People thought Pereira would fight Magomed Ankalaev next, but Aleksander Rakic was announced as the next opponent for “Russian Terror.”
