The Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased Kate Cross at the WPL 2024 auction. Kate Cross and Alex Hartley’s amicable banter reached new heights on Saturday as a result. Kate Cross, an England seamer, has been signed by RCB for Rs 30 lakh and will play in the upcoming Indian WPL season.
Cross is a big fan of the Chennai Super Kings, and he often posts photos of himself wearing the team’s iconic yellow shirt. The pacer, however, will play for the Bengaluru-based franchise in the second season. This means she’ll have to give up her loyalty to that city.
Hartley, an RCB fan in the men’s IPL, used the occasion to mock Cross for moving from Chennai to Bangalore. To mock her soon-to-be teammate, she posted on social media a photoshopped image of Cross destroying the CSK shirt while wearing the RCB stripes.
WPL 2024 updates:

It is critical to remember that the Royal Challengers Bangalore had a forgettable season in 2023. Only two of the eight games in the competition were won by the Smriti Mandhana-led team. They then lost the remaining six games, effectively eliminating them from the league’s group stages.
The Delhi Capitals have signed three new players: Annabel Sutherland, Aparna Mondal, and Ashwani Kumari. Along with Shabnim Ismail from South Africa, Amandeep Kaur, Fatima Jaffer, S Sajana, and Keerthana Balakrishnan joined the Mumbai Indians.
The Gujarat Giants went into the auction with the intention of adding ten more players, and Kashvee, Litchfield, Meghna Singh, Lauren Cheatle, Veda Krishnamurthy, Priya Mishra, Trisha Poojitha, Kathryn Bryce, Mannat Kashyap, and Tarannum Pathan were the players who filled those positions.
In addition to Wareham, Bisht, and Cross, RCB included Sabbhinani Meghana, Simran Bahadur, Sophie Molineux, and Shubha Satheesh. In addition to Vrinda, UP Warriorz recruited Gouher Sultana, Poonam Khemnar, Danielle Wyatt, and Saima Thakor.
On Saturday, December 9, the Women’s Premier League auction (WPL auction 2024) got underway in Mumbai. For the 30 remaining slots across five franchises, a total of 165 players were considered. Chamari Athapaththu, Deandra Dottin, Maia Bouchier, and other big names in cricket went unsold.
WPL auction event:

The WPL auction was a high-octane event, with two uncapped Indian players bidding for big bucks. Vrinda Dinesh was the first to be sold to UP Warriorz for a whopping INR 1.30 crore. Vrinda, the opening batter for Karnataka, has been a run machine for her team over the last two seasons.
In contrast, an uncapped Indian player named ‘Anushka Sharma’ drew everyone’s attention. Because she shares her name with the actress wife of star India batter Virat Kohli, fans expected the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women to sign her as soon as her name appeared in the auction. The player, however, did not sell, sparking a meme frenzy on X, and fans responded with the most hilarious reactions to the entire incident.
Anushka, a 20-year-old bowling all-rounder who plays for Madhya Pradesh Women in the Indian domestic circuit, has a base price of INR 10 Lakh. Her all-around performance in helping India B defeat India A in the first match of the Women’s U19 One Day Challenger Trophy in 2021 garnered her attention.
