Alaves vs Real Mallorca: Preview
Alaves form analysis
Babazorros have had mixed results in La Liga during February, registering two wins, two draws and a loss. They started the month with a hard fought 1-0 home victory over Cadiz on January 20th thanks to a second half Luis Rioja penalty. They followed that up with an impressive 3-0 away thrashing of Almeria on January 27th with Samu Omorodion grabbing a brace and Rioja again converting from the spot. However, their good form came to an abrupt halt when they faced Barcelona at home on February 3rd, with the Catalan giants running out 3-1 winners despite Samu Omorodion pulling one back for the hosts.
Alaves then managed to secure a respectable 1-1 home draw against a quality Villarreal side on February 10th, with Omorodion again getting himself on the scoresheet before Jorge Cuenca equalized in the second half. In their most recent La Liga match on February 19th, Alaves earned a valuable point away at Real Betis as the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Based on the last five matches, Alaves have shown they can be competitive against mid-table and lower sides but will likely struggle against top sides. Scoring goals has mainly come down to Samu Omorodion and Luis Rioja’s set piece prowess.
Real Mallorca form analysis
Mallorca have struggled for consistent form in La Liga during February, managing just one win in their last five matches. They started the month by salvaging a late 1-1 home draw against Villarreal on January 20th thanks to a 90th minute Javi Llabrés equalizer after falling behind in the first half to Alexander Sørloth’s opener. Things then went from bad to worse as they suffered a 1-0 home loss to Real Betis on January 28th after conceding to Sergi Altimira.
Their following match saw them thrashed 4-0 away at Athletic Bilbao, a humbling result with Mallorca powerless to stop goals from Yuri (2), Gorka Guruzeta and Muniain. They did manage to bounce back with a dramatic 2-1 home victory over Rayo Vallecano on February 11th, coming from behind after Álvaro García’s equalizer to snatch the win late on through Vedat Muriqi. However, this positive result was short-lived as their most recent match saw them fall to a painful stoppage time 2-1 away defeat to Real Sociedad despite Antonio Sánchez giving them an early lead. In summary, Mallorca have struggled defensively and failed to grind out results.
