Alaves vs Real Betis: Preview
Alaves form analysis
Deportivo Alaves began September perfectly by edging past Valencia 1-0 at home courtesy of an early Ozakacar own goal. However, they were comfortably beaten next time out at home by Rayo Vallecano, with goals from Palazon and De Frutos sealing a 0-2 loss. Problems persisted in a 0-2 defeat away at Athletic Bilbao as Alaves struggled in attack and conceded to Williams and Sancet. They did stop the rot by claiming a point in a 1-1 home draw with Celta, equalizing through Samu. But Alaves then suffered a fourth straight defeat last time out, losing 0-2 at home to Osasuna.
Overall, it’s been a difficult spell for Alaves as they’ve scored just one goal in their last five games while conceding seven. The boss has been unable to spark his side in attack since the opening win over Valencia. If Alaves continue misfiring in front of goal, it’s hard to see them avoiding relegation this season. Plaza desperately needs to find more of a threat upfront from his current options to turn draws into wins. But the lack of attacking quality is a major worry currently based on this goal-shy run.
Real Betis form analysis
Betis began with a tight 1-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano thanks to Willian Jose’s second half strike. However, they were then hammered 0-5 at home by Barcelona in a heavy defeat. Betis did respond by fighting back to draw 1-1 away at Cadiz, with Rodriguez cancelling out Ramos’ opener. They then drew again in a 1-1 stalemate at home against Granada, pegged back by Boye after Diao’s opener. Most recently though, Betis returned to winning ways with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Valencia inspired by goals from Diao, Roca and Ezzalzouli.
Overall, it’s been an inconsistent spell for Betis as they struggle for consistency. They’ve showcased their attacking talents at times, but been far too open defensively on occasion. The Cadiz and Granada draws demonstrated Betis’ spirit, but tighter organization is required to turn those into wins. Avoiding thrashings like against Barca is key now for confidence. If Betis can regain solidity to complement their danger going forward, they can still challenge for the European spots this term.
