The recently appointed mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gautam Gambhir, talked candidly about his conversation with co-owner Sha Rukh Khan of the franchise prior to the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). Gambhir was instrumental in building a formidable KKR squad and leading the team to titles in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
According to the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders, the Bollywood legend recently instructed him to steer the team in whatever direction he thought fit. The discussion takes place in 2011, the year that GG and Knight Riders merged. This time around as a mentor, the former Indian cricketer is sure he can bring out the best in the KKR players in the upcoming season.
Gambhir gears up for IPL 2024:

On the program Knights Unplugged Gambhir revealed by saying, “The same thing that Shah Rukh had told me when I first joined as a player in 2011 was repeated to me now. Shah Rukh Khan said, ‘Make it or break it—this is your franchise. I have no idea what will happen.’ But I promise you that whenever I leave this place, it will be in a much better position.”
The two-time IPL champion captain continued by stating that, both as a mentor and as a player, he can be a bit of a rough guy. He expressed his gratitude to KKR CEO Venky Mysore and Shah Rukh Khan as well, mentioning that he had been a tough boss to them during his previous KKR tenure.
I’m a really difficult person to deal with. I must express my gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan and Venky bhai, the CEO of Venky Mysore, who is also present. The 42-year-old continued, “They have tolerated a lot of my outbursts and stubbornness for such a long time.
Furthermore, KKR advanced to the IPL 2022 championship game but lost to Chennai Super Kings by a margin of 27 runs. They had, however, been underperforming in the previous two years, coming in seventh. On Saturday, March 23, at Kolkata’s famed Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad to begin their IPL 2024 campaign. With Gambhir appointed as the team mentor, the Kolkata-based franchise will be looking for a memorable season this year.
