Colby Covington got a crushing defeat by Leon Edwards at UFC 296, after which his rankings in the welterweight division were revised. He is now ranked 5th in the Welterweight division. Edwards dominated him throughout the fight, especially in response to Covington’s offensive comments about his late father. Despite the clear result, “Chaos” insisted on an absurd claim that he believed he did enough to ensure victory. He emphasized that his defeat was the result of the judges’ alleged political bias against former US President Donald Trump, who attended the fight.
Covington said, “The judges never favor me. They hate me because I support Trump, and everybody in this building hates Trump, so it is what it is. Life goes on.”
Chaos wants to take on the Wonderboy
Covington has also expressed his desire to take on Stephen Thompson, who also experienced defeat on the same UFC 296 card. He argues that Thompson has been particularly vocal about him in the media. During the post-fight conference, he said, “There is a guy who’s been talking a lot about me in the media, Stephen Thompson. Everybody thinks he’s a good guy. He has a lot to say about me, so I would love to see him say that to me in the cage.”

The 35-year-old noted Thompson’s pre-fight comments and indicated a history of verbal exchanges. He wants the “Wonderboy” to address him directly in person, emphasizing that despite being backstage at the press conference together, Thompson remained reserved and avoided direct confrontation.
The UFC is currently uncertain for Covington
Belal Muhammad is on an incredible 10-fight winning streak in the UFC and has cemented his claim for a title shot. On the other hand, Shavkat Rakhmonov has emerged as a compelling opponent for Colby Covington, especially if he aims to re-establish himself for a title shot. Promotion’s plans for Covington after his recent loss to Edwards are uncertain. They might offer him favorable matchups against fighters like Thompson or choose Rakhmonov to challenge him.
