Afghanistan cricket may have missed out on a semi-final spot in the ODI World Cup, but a strong showing throughout the tournament has earned them a spot in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side finished sixth on the points table with 8 points, their best-ever campaign in ODI World Cup history. A video of the Afghan cricketer Rahmanullah Gurbaz has gone viral on social media.
In every city they visited, the Afghans were showered with love and affection. They finished their journey in Ahmedabad with a 5-wicket loss to South Africa. A few days before their final match, a viral video went viral, showing wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz secretly helping homeless people sleeping on Ahmedabad’s footpaths.
A local radio jockey shared the video, stating that the incident occurred around 3 a.m. While the people were sleeping, Gurbaz got out of his car and placed INR 500 currency notes beside them before leaving without announcing his presence.
