Cody Rhodes fought his last match in AEW against a memorable opponent, Sammy Guevara. He has now opened up about facing “The American Nightmare” in his last match in Tony Khan’s promotion, which took place at AEW Dynamite: Beach Break 2022. Although this was Cody’s last match in AEW, he still put up a show with full dedication. The two competed in a ladder match for the TNT title, which Guevara won.
The Spanish God praised Cody Rhodes
The clash was a great success and received a lot of praise from critics. Recently, during an interview with DDP, Guevara revealed that he did not know that the match would be Cody’s last in AEW. “Going into that match, Cody, you know him. He wants to give the people a show they’re never gonna forget. I didn’t know it at the time, maybe he did, but that was also his final AEW match. He could have easily phoned it, but he gave it 110%. He wanted to do so much craziness,” said Guevara.
The “Spanish God” further stated that he knows what Cody’s mindset is, and it is just go balls to the walls. Unfortunately, it was Cody’s last match in AEW. Although the exact reason for Cody’s departure from Tony Khan’s promotion is not known, it is believed he had some feud with Tony and eventually walked out of the company, which he started in 2019 as the Vice President alongside with Khan and The Young Bucks. However, only better has happened for Cody Rhodes after leaving AEW as he signed with WWE, the promotion he left on a sour note in 2016. Cody made his comeback at WrestleMania 38 and defeated Seth Rollins in his opening match.

Cody Rhodes is currently having his best WWE run
“The American Nightmare” then went on to win the 2023 Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania 39 against Roman Reigns for the WWE title. Although he lost that match, in 2024, Cody once again won the Royal Rumble and this time at WrestleMania 40, he finally completed his story by winning the championship. Cody is the current undisputed WWE Champion and also the face of the company. Till now, he has successfully defended his title four times. Cody has recently teamed up with Roman Reigns and is set to face Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood in a tag team match on October 5, 2024.
